EU, US have reached an agreement to replace Privacy Shield
EU/US Privacy Shield was struck down in July 2020, followed by months of legal uncertainty for cloud services. However, the uncertainty surrounding data transfers between the EU and the US predates 2020. In 2015, Europe’s top court overturned Privacy Shields’s predecessor, known as Safe Harbor, on similar grounds that U.S. surveillance authorities in the U.S. were putting privacy rights in jeopardy.
